The new 100-tonne-capacity truck crane features a number of improvements over previous models, the company says.

For a start, the TMS9000E is 363kg lighter than its predecessor, which enables a wider range of flexibility in carrying counterweight, cribbing and other items.

Though the TMS9000-2 is lighter, its boom length and capacity have both increased.

The crane features a new, 51.6m six-section Megaform boom that utilises Grove’s Twin-Lock pinning system. It’s a greaseless boom, which reduces maintenance for owners.

"The improved reach will enable customers to complete a wider variety of applications with the crane, but from a compact chassis (2.6m wide x 13.4m long)," the company says. "The crane will offer manual or hydraulic swingaways, along with an additional insert, to provide further reach options."

With this increased reach comes increased capacity across all load charts.

Both the boom and chassis are stronger on the TMS9000-2 than previous Grove cranes, so there is more capacity across all radiuses. On average, load charts with maximum counterweight have improved by approximately 5 per cent over its predecessor, Manitowoc says.

The new model also shares the same counterweight system as the TMS9000E, so existing owners can interchange counterweights and wing weights from the previous-generation crane, giving them flexibility in configurations across an entire fleet.

The crane comes with Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CCS), a standardised operating system that works across several crane brands and models.

The TMS9000-2 offers six simple predefined boom sequences and a Boom Configurator Mode that allows operators to quickly select the optimum boom position and length for a specific lift — the operator simply inputs lift parameters and the system calculates the best configuration.

Other features include a series of cameras and a more flexible and compact outrigger system.

The TMS9000-2 is powered by a Cummins ISX12 engine that produces 336kW at 1800 rpm, with a maximum 2102Nm of torque. There’s a choice of either a manual or an automated manual transmission.
