After several years of making their rounds in Europe and abroad, Massey Ferguson’s telehandlers have finally arrived in Australia, starting with the MF 9407S model.
Massey Ferguson says the MF 9407S has been designed specifically for agricultural applications and combines unrivalled visibility with the manoeuvrability and performance required for the most demanding tasks.
It was unveiled to the Australian market recently at Massey Ferguson parent company AGCO’s Vision of the Future expo in Melbourne.
Like Massey Ferguson’s brand new Global Series utility tractor range, the MF 9407S also features a “clean sheet” design, meaning the telehandler has been designed from the ground up following extensive consumer consultations across Europe.
Massey Ferguson General Marketing Manager Fergal Meehan claims the MF 9407S offers the best visibility on the market through the unique curved rear screen.
“It is also very compact, agile and manoeuvrable,” he says.
“The short, wide chassis provides exceptional stability, while the laterally, side-mounted engine offers great access for service.”
Featuring a completely new boom design and mounting pivot along with powerful new hydraulics, the MF 9407S is able to offer lift capacities and heights that are ideally suited to a range of applications.
Curved rear screen for superior visibility
A patented curved side and rear window fitted into the new cab, coupled with the low boom mounting position (1.75m), offers operators unrestricted view to the rear right-hand side.
This design means there is no cab pillar to obstruct the view, offering superior visibility.
The spacious cab is 900m wide with plenty of shoulder and leg room for even the largest of operators. It is also very quiet and come standard with air conditioning and pneumatic seat suspension.
The dashboard is located in the right corner of the cab, is easy to read and is mounted just in front of the new joystick.
A shuttle reverse lever is mounted on the left, within a fingers reach of the steering wheel. A separate button is used to place the boom into the float position.
Powerful engine conveniently located for easy access
The MF 9407S is powered by a 1104D-ETA Perkins four-cylinder engine offering 130hp. The engine is mounted on the right of the machine and is fitted lengthways parallel to the boom, making it easy to reach.
A cooling pack, which folds up for cleaning purposes and is mounted at the front of the engine compartment above the hydraulic pumps and the fan, can be reversed for cleaning.
Strong chassis and brand new gearbox
A short 2.87m wheelbase and wide chassis design on the model provide a stable platform while wide tyres offer manoeuvrability and low ground pressure.
The standard four-wheel steering and compact design ensure the machine is able to manoeuvre with ease in confined spaces.
A new four-speed hydrostatic gearbox provides speeds of up to 40 km/h (depending on markets).
The hydrostatic system has two mechanical gears with electric selection, with a two-speed splitter for each speed. A creeper speed provides more comfort to the operator which allows high revs for fast boom responses at lower travel speeds.
A strong, steel belly plate which runs the full length of the chassis provides protection to the machine when working on rough, uneven ground or in rutted tracks.
New boom, new hydraulics for heavier loads
The MF 9407S features a new boom with a low 1.75 pivot point which Massey Ferguson says has been engineered to handle the heaviest agricultural workloads.
Although the machine comes with its own tool carrier, it can be customised to accomodate a wide range of types to fit existing attachments in order to help reduce costs.
According to Massey Ferguson, the new 190 litres/min closed centre, load-sensing (CCLS) hydraulic pump provides best in class flow rates for a fast and powerful response to improve loading cycle times.
A new proportional joystick ensures precise and smooth operation of all boom functions. It also comes equipped with buttons for operating ancillary circuits.
Massey Ferguson has also added a new boom float function for scraping floors and loading off uneven surfaces which can be engaged at the touch of a button. There is also a boom suspension option to protect the machine and operator from jarring, particularly in transport.
