With Isuzu Power Solutions and Mercedes-Benz industrial engines now part of its portfolio, LK Diesel Services has cemented itself as a leader in power generation and engine reliability
It’s been approximately one year since Melbourne’s LK Diesel Services was appointed as an Isuzu Power Solutions authorised dealer, with this milestone having coincided with another significant achievement for the business.
Throughout this same timeframe, LK Diesel has also been an authorised dealer of Daimler & Mercedes-Benz industrial diesel engines, covering the supply of new units, maintenance and servicing.
LK Diesel general manager and co-owner Bernard Kuhlwind says the addition of these brands was a result of Deutz AG’s global acquisition, which had direct implications for the Braeside-based business, having been a trusted Deutz Australia dealer for more than four decades.
“After Deutz AG purchased that division of Mercedes-Benz they became the national distributor, and therefore we became a new dealer of these engines,” he says.
“In time, they will be rebranded but there are still a lot of engines out there under the Daimler and Mercedes-Benz names and will be for many years.”
Bernard adds the new engines have been well received due to the reputation of the brand.
“Mercedes-Benz is a worldwide brand, not only for the truck and car market but also as an original engine manufacturer,” he says.
“They’ve been building diesel engines ever since they were around and are a well-respected engine for many machine manufacturers. A lot of equipment comes to Australia fitted with Mercedes-Benz engines.”
In terms of what machinery Mercedes-Benz industrial engines power, Bernard says there is a large variety, with everything from underground mining and commercial quarrying equipment to drill rigs, excavators, pumps and even generators.
Having slowly integrated the brand into the business, LK Diesel is spreading the word to potential customers who need reliable engines at the heart of their machinery.
“We are the only Melbourne-based Mercedes-Benz industrial engine dealer and one of only a few in Victoria,” Bernard says.
He adds LK Diesel’s appointment as an Isuzu Power Solutions authorised dealer has “opened up a whole new world” for the business, with the capacity to now supply Isuzu power units and generator sets.
“The generators are still filtering in, but they’re starting to build up and we’re getting more inquiries for them,” Bernard says.
“There are potential power issues in summer, so these generators can be an important asset. They’re big enough to run houses and be a backup power source for small government facilities.
“We’re looking forward to getting our name out there and letting people know that we can assist them with engines and generators. We can assist them from little single cylinders up to large industrial V8s.”
