Distribution efficiency improvement part of 10,000sqm growth
Bunnings Warehouse has agreed to terms on a 10,000-square-metre expansion of its distribution centre at the Port of Brisbane’s Port West estate.
The expansion will incorporate 800sqm of dedicated container-rated hardstand and about 2,200sqm of cantilevered awning area.
De Luca Corporation has been assigned to undertake construction on the existing 30,450sqm facility.
Construction is expected to start in late 2018 and be complete by mid-2019. The project is part of a new 10-year lease deal.
“We’ve proudly worked with Bunnings since their initial move to Port West in 2012,” Port of Brisbane CEO Roy Cummins says.
“This new agreement not only gives Bunnings room for future growth, but it gives both parties long-term certainty.”
Cummins adds the port is keen to continue to expand its relationship with Bunnings and other clients in the future.
“Unrivalled road connectivity and close proximity to the wharves and terminals at the Port of Brisbane means Port West really is one of the most impressive industrial precincts in the region.
“It’s safe to say Port West is no longer the industry’s best kept secret, with the Bunnings expansion following deals with Stora Enso, Queensland Glass, Steelforce, and Autocare.
“Our customer first approach to property development and management is a hallmark of the Port West estate.”
Bunnings general manager, property Andrew Marks commented that the expansion helps Bunnings improve its distribution efficiency and provides scale to support its growing Queensland store network.
