Dematic acquires AGV-maker NDC Automation

Dematic is looking for opportunities involving automated warehouse vehicles.

Australian automated guided vehicle (AGV) specialist, NDC Automation, has been acquired by international warehousing and logistics technology producer Dematic.

Retaining its name over a transition period before operating globally under the Dematic brand, NDC Automation will continue to provide its AGVs under the deal.

“We are pleased to announce the acquisition of NDC Automation, which enhances our ability to design, deliver and deploy global AGV solutions that move, store and/or retrieve goods,” Dematic president and CEO Ulf Henriksson says.

“The NDC portfolio expands upon an existing portfolio that will dynamically optimise the movement of raw materials or finished goods as they move throughout a facility, including software that provides real-time information addressing material flow metrics.”

NDC Automation designs, builds, and installs AGV solutions for production and warehousing locations.

The tailored systems utilise a range of special purpose vehicles to manage the transportation, retrieval, dispatch, and storage of goods, such as pallets.

Operating for over 40 years, the Australian-based company says the acquisition is a positive move for it and its customer base.

“The NDC Automation team is excited to join the Dematic organisation and leverage our technology, deep breadth of experience and provoking thought leadership in the area of goods transportation,” NDC Automation CEO Tommy Eklof says.

“We look forward to offering our combined technology solutions to create competitive advantage for the Dematic and NDC customer base.”

Dematic ANZ/ASEAN CEO Glen Borg says the deal “further enhances our offerings to the global marketplace, complementing our storage equipment and logistics IT technologies and providing our customers with expanded flexible, scalable and modular solutions.”
