JCB is building awareness of its range of ‘Teletruks’ —forklifts with telescopic booms instead of vertical masts — with a visit to Australia by Teletruk export development manager Simon Cubitt.

"The Teletruk is unique to the JCB brand," Cubitt says, "and because it’s relatively new to Australia and still unknown to many potential customers, the market opportunity is huge.

"With involvement in infrastructure and construction projects, large scale industries such as ports, mining, building materials and niche markets like waste, recycling, tunnelling, agriculture, and even the wine industry, the potential in the Australian market is great."

Based at JCB’s global headquarters in Staffordshire, England, Cubitt is spending eight weeks with JCB CEA customers, dealers and various industry bodies. He has been working with the Teletruk for over a decade.

The Teletruk is marketed as five machines in one, having the benefits of a skid steer loader, a compact telehandler, a rough terrain forklift, a compact wheeled loader and a conventional masted forklift.

Features include fork tilt of 111 degrees, the ability to change attachments in under 30 seconds — without leaving the cab — a fully enclosed hydrostatic drive system and a 4WD option.

"The JCB Teletruk’s ability to load vehicles from one side reduces traveling distance and loading space, which lends itself to faster loading times and safer handling than the traditional forklift truck," Cubitt says. "The versatility of the Teletruk provides improved handling capabilities over conventional materials handling equipment."

Recent product developments introduced by the UK are expected to help build awareness in the Australian market.

Among these are Tier4 Final compliance for low emission levels and reduced fuel consumption, the addition of JCB’s unique telematics system, LiveLink, and an improved standard warranty from JCB — two years or 3,000 hours.
