Jungheinrich stacker wins Forklift of the Year award
Jungheinrich's new 5 tonne electric forklift, the EFG S40 has snagged an International Forklift of the Year award at the recent CeMat trade fair in Hannover, Germany.

The company’s EFG S40s counterbalanced forklift stacker has bagged the award for the Counterbalanced Trucks over 3.5 tonnes category.

The IFOY judges awarded Jungheinrich with the top honour due to the EFG S40’s energy efficient qualities and its parameter steering feature, which adapts the steering of the truck based on the selected drive program.

Its ability to operate for two full shifts in ideal situations without the need for a battery change has also impressed the panel of judges.

The 5-tonne battery-powered machine was developed at produced at the Jungheinrich plant in Moosburg, Germany and was introduced to the international market at bauma 2013 trade fair in Munich.

A key feature of the EFG S40 is its "Pure Energy" concept, which employs the latest generation of environmentally friendly Jungheinrich three-phase AC technology.

The interaction between the Jungheinrich original-design motors and the electronic controllers has also been further refined, resulting in added energy savings without any sacrifice in productivity.

The spatial arrangement of the truck’s control system greatly reduces the length and number of lines needed to connect the various components, while the length of hydraulic tubing has been significantly reduced by connecting components directly with the hydraulic block wherever possible.

The new parameter steering feature adjusts the steering characteristics of the truck to suit the selected drive mode. This adaptive steering concept is a systematic further development of the assistant system from everyday road vehicles for use in MHE units.

The award comprises of five categories including "Counterbalanced truck of up to 3.5 tonnes",  "Counterbalanced truck from 3.5 tonnes’, "Warehouse Truck", "Automated Guided Vehicles" and "Intralogistics Solution".

Some of the award winners include Toyota Materials Handling, Crown Equipment,  and Still with Toyota emerging the big winner of the night by bagging two awards - "Counterbalanced Trucks up to 3.5 tonnes" and "Intralogistics Solution".

CeMAT is the world’s leading materials handling trade event and ran from May 19 to 23 this year iat the Hannover Exhibition Centre.
