A Merlo P25.6 telehandler has a pivotal role in helping Melbourne and Olympic Parks prepare for events, reflecting the growing role this type of machine is playing in the sporting and lifestyle event space, according to specialist Merlo telehandler dealer Shayne Morrall.
With facilities that include Rod Laver Arena, Hisense Arena, National Tennis Centre, AAMI Park, Westpac Centre and Olympic Park Oval, Melbourne and Olympic Parks is using the P25.6 for a range of tasks from moving huge pot plants to unloading trucks for rock concerts.
“The Merlo P25.6 offers versatility and a compact profile so it can be used in confined spaces. It also offers high performance and superior operator comfort, plus it’s very quick,” Morrall says, adding that this telescopic handler model is well suited to customers who need an all-round performer.
“It has better specs than anything else in its class and is a true utility machine.”
He highlights features such as the P25.6’s compact size, high visibility, good load management system, 18-inch rims and tyres, excellent ground clearance, fast hydraulics and 36km/h maximum travel speed.
“The Merlo P25.6 has a fork attachment, which comes as standard, and an optional bucket which can be used for loading spreaders,” Morrall says. “You can change the attachments easily and it’s all operated through the cab. It’s one-button, hydraulic pick up and release; it’s a pretty user friendly machine.”
The load management system mentioned above prevents the telehandler being overloaded, tipping or dropping its load.
“It has a Level 2 load management system, which is standard in our machines,” Morrall says.” The weight ratio is automatic and you can’t overload the machine. It will stop in that position until you bring it back down within its parameters. It’s just a press of the button to lower the boom and then you go off again.”
Further improving safety is four-wheel braking, and the use of a solid ring of cold bent 70mm steel bar that surrounds the steel frame and acts as a counterbalance and aiding stability across the range of Merlo’s 21 telehandler models, from 2.5 tonnes to 7 tonnes. Called the ‘Merlo Ring of Steel’, it eliminates the need for intrusive counter weights sticking out from the machine.
Morrall points out that every Merlo model has a full-sized cabin made with operator comfort in mind, saying: “It’s the same cabin for the complete range. In other brands the smaller machines have small cabins.”
Also improving the lot of the operator is an easy-to-use hydrostatic drive and the placement of the boom so it sits lower than the operator, giving an unobstructed 360-degree view from the cab.
