Hyundai adds heavy 160D-9L forklift to range

Hyundai Forklifts Australia has bridged the gap between its 160D-9 and 180D-9 heavy-duty forklifts by releasing the 160D-9L.

  • Powerful diesel counterbalanced model
  • 16-tonne lift capacity
  • Enhanced safety features

This is a diesel counterbalanced model designed to move large, heavy material such as containers, concrete, steel and timber.

The new model has a lift capacity of 16 tonnes and a load centre of 1200mm. Its chassis is the same size as the 18-tonne 180D-9 but its overall length is 30cm shorter, which helps when working space is an issue.

The truck is driven by a Cummins QSB6.7 engine which pumps out 122kW and meets Tier-4 Final emissions standards. It does the latter through the use of a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and a selective catalytic reactor (SCR) which uses AdBlue.

Hyundai says the combination of DOC and SCR “reduces down-time and in turn makes it hassle free for the operator”.

“Other advantages from using a high-output engine are greater acceleration, improved gradeability and a faster travel speed on any tough terrain or slope,” the company adds.

That travel speed is 35.2km/h unloaded

The Hyundai 160D-9L forklift uses a ZF full-automatic transmission and a Kessler front axle to improve handling and make shifting gears is a smooth operation.

“The machine is equipped with a load sensing hydraulic system,” Hyundai says. “The Bosch Rexroth variable displacement pumps ensure that the machine power is used more efficiently and therefore helps reduce fuel consumption, which can equate to between 5 to 10 percent energy saving depending on the application.”

The cab is a new design built for a high level of all-round visibility, plenty of space and reduced noise levels.

Adding to operator comfort, the company says, are revised pedal positions, an adjustable steering column and an ergonomic suspension seat with a weight adjustment system.

On the safety side you get a speed limiter, two engine modes – STD for light-duty manoeuvres and Power for heavy-duty work or when operating on a slope – and an electric hand brake system which is combined with an anti-roll back function and linked to the OPSS (Operator Presence Sensing System).

This means that if the 160D-9L is inclined more than three-degrees and comes to a stop, the handbrake is automatically activated to prevent it rolling back.

An optional load indicator checks pressure in the lift cylinder to calculate the weight on the forks. The load is indicated on the display and if an overload occurs the operator is alerted by a warning sound and a flashing display weight.
