“Crown’s focus on ergonomics which optimise operator productivity are a key feature of the new RT 4000 Series,” Crown product engineering development and support manager Michael Croxford says.

“This is evident in the availability of stand-up or sit-down models, and left- or right-handed steering on stand-up models.”

Stand-up models can be configured for left or right-hand steering depending on the operator preferences. Sit-down models have a range of control schemes and configurable seating to fit all operators.

Crown says the RT 4000’s design reduces operator fatigue with electronic power steering. The steering wheel has been sized and positioned to minimise shoulder and arm stress. A range of accessories such as beverage holders, clipboards or storage holders are also available.

The pallet trucks are driven by AC motors developed in-house at Crown and are capable of speeds up to 12.5km/h. The trucks’ one-piece forks are made from high-tensile steel and have a lift capacity up to 2,000kg.

“The RT 4000 Series is designed and tested to withstand extreme stresses,” Cox says.

“Every model is fitted with a reinforced, 8mm-thick, wraparound steel skirt and steel covers 6mm thick. No exposed plastic parts are used in impact areas.”

Operator safety is enhanced by features such as the entry bar safety switch which begins to slow the machine to a stop when the operator places a foot on the entry bar, outside the truck’s perimeter.

The RT 4000 Series’ design led to it being awarded Germany’s iF design award in the vehicles category for 2016. This was Crown’s 28th iF product design award.
