Crown launches grunty but nimble FC 5200 forklifts

A new range of Crown FC 5200 electric counterbalanced forklifts just launched in the United States is designed to lift loads of up to 3 tonnes in tight aisles and on crowded docks and yards.

The range will be coming to Australia later in the first half of this year, and we’ll be telling you more about it when it arrives.

Crown says the forklifts are built around the design pillars of strength, stability and manoeuvrability:

Strength

The trucks are built with a strong, durable frame and power train to handle demanding loads.

Stability

Crown’s Intrinsic Stability System uses integrated sensors and controllers to constantly monitor and control key forklift functions and movements to enhance stability and safety and improve operator confidence.

Manoeuvrability

The forklift’s dual drive motors and steering axle geometry allow for a smaller turn radius so operators can handle heavy loads in tight spaces without disturbing surrounding pallets and/or adding extra wear on the tires.

“The Crown FC 5200 is designed to reliably tackle some of the most demanding material handling and manufacturing tasks and environments,” Crown Equipment’s US marketing product manager Tony Young says.

“It is also ideal for forklift attachments, making it even more versatile in handling a variety of loads,” he says, adding that the forklifts are well suited to dock work, stacking in racks and feeding assembly lines.

Additional features include faster acceleration, travel and lift speeds — which Crown says should enable operators to move up to 10 percent more loads per shift — a tighter turning radius and a larger battery.

The latter, it says, provides 15 percent more runtime per battery charge than previous Crown forklift models.

“When the performance of the forklift is set to optimise efficiency,” Crown says, “an additional 25 percent of runtime can be realised, resulting in a combined 40 percent more runtime per battery charge.

“The forklift’s eGEN Braking further reduces the cost of ownership by eliminating traditional friction brakes and reducing the need for maintenance.”
