Manitou to keep lifting V8 Supercars

V8 Supercars and telehandler maker The Manitou Group have announced they will be extending their vehicle recovery partnership for an eighth straight season ahead of this weekend’s exhibition round at the 2015 Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix in Melbourne.

As official provider of recovery equipment for V8 Supercars, Manitou machines are used to clear the track of damaged cars or debris after accidents, increasing both driver and spectator safety. The use of these machines also minimises race disruptions, allowing the race events to run as smoothly as possible.

“These machines mean our officials spend less time on the circuit, which is always a good thing,” V8 Supercars director of sport and operations Damien White says. “This also benefits racing, as any damaged cars are quickly removed, reducing the length of safety car periods.”

For Manitou, the partnership with V8 Supercars provides an opportunity to showcase the brand’s products operating in an environment for which the machines are purpose-built. The large national television audience brings even more exposure for Manitou.

“We’re excited to have our Manitou brand involved in the sport, particularly with the new media deal providing more coverage than ever before,” Manitou Australia managing director Stuart Walker says. “Our machines are used at V8 Supercars races, along with support races that require this specialised equipment, so we couldn’t be more pleased.”

The Manitou track recovery machines will next be in action at the Tyrepower Tasmania SuperSprint at Symmons Plains Raceway in Launceston.

This weekend, Jamie Whincup and his 888 Racing Team are looking to go back-to-back after last year’s championship win. Whincup sits in fifth position on the table after the 2015 season’s opening round at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide earlier this month. The factory Holden Racing Team’s James Courtney has taken the early lead in the series after a blistering weekend in Adelaide.

The 2015 season also sees the full-time return of two-time former V8 Supercar champion Marcos Ambrose, coming home after nine years racing in the American NASCAR series. He returns as the driver for the one-car DJR Penske team, formerly Dick Johnson Racing, now co-owned by American motorsport legend Roger Penske.
