Hunter Valley specialist mining component manufacturer DSI Underground has taken on a fleet of Toyota forklifts and lift trucks for its factory and warehouse.
“Toyota is a trusted and well-respected forklift brand and we’re very happy to be running a Toyota forklift fleet again,” DSI purchasing officer Jeffrey Prest says.
DSI Underground’s fleet consists of three Toyota BT reach trucks and a range of forklifts (both battery-electric and internal combustion) in payload capacities from 2.5 to 7-tonnes.
The smaller battery-electric forklifts are used for light duties in the DSI warehouse, while the 3- to 5-tonne models are used for loading and unloading containers. The big 7-tonne forklift is then used to move containers around the site.
“The feedback from the forklift operators is positive too, Prest says.
“They often comment on the fact that the Toyotas offer a much smoother ride than our previous forklifts. That’s an important factor when you’re driving on a rough surface all day.”
DSI Underground says a much-used feature on their Toyota forklifts is the independent fork positioning that allows adjustments to be made to the width of the forklifts without leaving the driver’s seat.
“That’s a really good feature to have,” Prest added.
“Apart from being faster and more convenient for the operator it also lessens the risk of injury that could be caused if the adjustment needed to be made manually.”
The forklifts are connected to Toyota’s I_Site fleet management system which monitors the machine’s productivity as well as their security status.
“Toyota’s forklift fleet management software contains security features including a personalised PIN code access to each forklift,” Toyota Materials Handling Australia sales manager Allan Peacock says.
“And it monitors the forklift fleet to give a snapshot of the business’ forklift productivity.”
